Scope of Role
Eluceda is a high-tech company with a significant body of IP and ambitious growth plans headquartered in Burnley, Lancashire (UK) and sites in York, North Yorkshire (UK) and Washington State (US). Serving Blue Chip customers across three main markets - Product & Brand Authentication, Chemical & Biological Detection and In Vitro Diagnostics, Eluceda's mission is to enable organisations to protect health and revenues through the rapid detection of small molecules.
Eluceda is searching for an electrochemist with skills in biosensor application and development. The electrochemist will be expanding our Research and Development team to develop novel sensors that will be used in a wide range of applications from microbial and virus detection to field use for anti-counterfeiting purposes.
The Candidate
We would expect you to have experience in the use and application of electrochemical biosensors but given the size and growth plans, you will need to demonstrate a level of creativity and adaptability.
You will be part of a team with the responsibility to develop, qualify and produce robust sensors and test kits for our various applications with the exciting prospect of helping the team to develop as the company grows. It is essential that you will be able to see the bigger company picture when setting your priorities.
Ideally, you should have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree or a number of years of experience in the field of electrochemical biosensors and with this knowledge, you will be responsible for further developing and securing the IP portfolio.
Given the multisite nature of the business, you have to be able to work in a multidisciplinary team with the ability to work with people on different sites. You will also be required to meet with customers and develop strategic relationships with our key suppliers.

Requirements
- Knowledge in sensor design, fabrication and characterisation
- Knowledge of electrochemical techniques such as voltammetry, amperometry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy is desirable.
- Experience with the application of proteins to sensor surfaces would also be a benefit.
Location & additional details
You will be situated in the laboratories at the Burnley HQ and, depending on experience, will report to the Technical Director. You will be required to travel to the laboratories at the University of York and to see customers as required.
A valid driving licence is essential.
25 days holiday per year plus public holidays.
Key duties
- Work safely on the premises and identify areas for improvement.
- Contribute with ideas to develop and enhance the company’s IP portfolio.
- Conduct research & development of electrodes with a view to manufacture and scale up.
- Provide input or lead continuous improvement of the company at all levels.

- Plan and coordinate the work, projects and activities
- Attend or organise project (or other) meetings when required
- Identify and pursue opportunities to develop the company with the management agreement
- Taking part in planning consulting and management of production
- Appraisal management of any staff according to company policies
- Develop and maintain good working relationships with staff within the company.
- Ensure that equipment is fit for purpose and maintained
- Develop strategic relationships with key suppliers
- Develop relationships with clients with respect to delivering project outcomes and materials/products as required.
- Maintain clean and professional standards within the building
- Provide regular reports on R&D activities
- Stimulate and maintain a good atmosphere in the workplace
