Covid19 (SARS-CoV-2)

Rapid Testing for Coronavirus: Getting the world safely back to work (& play)

Currently, worldwide SARS-CoV-2 is detected using a gold standard, quantitative reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) provided by several manufacturers for centralised, mass community tests. Whilst this form of testing is critical for dealing with entire populations, the relative speed with which the tests are processed, plus the time samples are in transit, makes these unpractical for many situations, leading to quarantining and self-isolation of perfectly healthy people.

Eluceda has a rapid test (based on it's existing technology that identifies other pathogens) that detects the SARS-CoV-2 virus in less than 20 min. At the heart of the test is a low-cost electrode that can detect trace levels of the virus and give an electrical signal through our E-Sens™ reader to indicate that the virus is present - the process itself takes a few seconds.

A single E-Sens™ detector can test 30 samples per hour, and the approach is modular, so multiple readers can expand the amount of tests accordingly.

The E-Sens™ technology is:

• Portable

• Cost effective

• Rapid, test results in <20mins

As a decentralised, screening technology that can be used to test localised groups quickly, the applications are almost limitless from airports, offices and factories, to schools, restaurants and care homes, this would enable people to balance risk and take back some control against the virus.
